a freeze watch is now in effect from late tonight through
friday morning…

much colder and drier air will continue to build into the region today which will set the stage for a fairly chilly night tonight. a ridge of high pressure will build in from the west and
temperatures are expected to fall quickly during the evening hours under light winds. however…a secondary dry cold front will approach the region from the northwest towards sunrise friday morning…and this could increase the winds just enough to prevent a light freeze for northern portions of the region. therefore… depending on timing…parts of this watch may need to be trimmed back before a warning would be issued later today. on friday night…however…we could see one of the coldest nights of the entire winter season thus far…as the surface ridge behind the dry cold front will be positioned right overhead of the cwa. this will allow for nearly ideal conditions for rapid cooling with clear skies and near calm winds. low temps could bottom out in the middle 20s over much of the interior..which will result in at least a long duration light freeze…and the possibility of the first hard freeze of the season.
