freeze warning in effect tonight through saturday morning…

winds have become light to calm early this evening under clear skies in the wake of a cold front. the combination of these
factors…in addition to the very dry nature of the air mass…was allowing temperatures to drop quickly during the evening hours. because of the rapid decrease in temperature…the start time of the freeze warning has been moved earlier to 10 pm est. many locations away from the coast are expected to see lows in the mid to upper 20s…creating a long duration freeze event overnight. the typically coldest locations away from larger cities and the beaches are most likely to see lows in the mid 20s…and a few could even see a hard freeze. the probability of a hard freeze in the usual cold spots is roughly 20 to 30 percent…not sufficient to warrant a hard freeze warning but high enough that people with sensitive plants may want to take that into account.
